An Investigation of Efficient Receiver Structures for CDMA Communication

چکیده
Efficient allocation of the communication resources such as frequency bandwidth is an important problem in multiple access technique. In this thesis, we explore the potential of code-division multiple-access (CDMA) as an efficient resource-sharing technique. We explore recently proposed receivers and develop a unified vector space interpretation. Bit error rates of each receiver in the simple two user case are developed and compared. The decorrelating detector is subject to a capacity decrease when the number of active interfering users is small compared to the number of potential users. We propose an algorithm to modify the decorrelating detector so that a capacity increase is achieved when the signal-to-noise ratios of interfering users are very high. We analyze the algorithm in a simple case and provide results of Monte-Carlo simulation to demonstrate the viability of the algorithm. Thesis Supervisor: Gregory W. Wornell Title: Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering Acknowledgments I would like to thank Professor Gregory MT. Wornell, not only for his enthusiastic teaching and invaluable advice and guidances on this research, but also for his help on various other matters. His supervision has had a significant impact in many areas of my personal development. I was very fortunate to have him as my thesis supervisor. My involvement with Professor Alan. V. Oppenheim was a great experience. He showed me an uncompromising standard of a good teacher. I enjoyed working with him in 6.341, too. Thanks are due to students in DSPG, from whom I received lots of comments and ideas on my research. They provided me with a pleasant working environment. I also would like to thank Chang Yoo for his friendship and advice. My deepest thank would go to my parents and my sisters. Without their support, sacrifice, and encouragement, this thesis would not have been possible. Thank you.

Nonlinear Multiuser Receiver for Optimized Chaos-Based DS-CDMA Systems
Chaos based communications have drawn increasing attention over the past years. Chaotic signals are derived from non-linear dynamic systems. They are aperiodic, broadband and deterministic signals that appear random in the time domain. Because of these properties, chaotic signals have been proposed to generate spreading sequences for wide-band secure communication recently. Like conventional DS...
متن کاملJoint Closed-Loop Power Control and Base Station Assignment for DS-CDMA Receiver in Multipath Fading Channel with Adaptive Beamforming Method
In this paper, we propose smart step closed-loop power control (SSPC) algorithm and base station assignment based on minimizing the transmitter power (BSAMTP) technique in a direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) receiver in the presence of frequency-selective Rayleigh fading. This receiver consists of three stages. In the first stage, with conjugate gradient (CG) adaptive ...
متن کاملFrame time-hopping fiber-optic code-division multiple access using generalized optical orthogonal codes
In this paper, a new spreading technique for intensity modulation direct detection fiber-optic code-division multiple-access (FO-CDMA) communication systems is proposed. This new spreading technique is based on generalized optical orthogonal codes (OOC) with large cardinality and minimal degradation in performance when compared with a more optimum system, namely, an optical CDMA system using OO...
متن کاملUsing Chaotic Sequence in Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Based on Code Division Multiple Access (ds-cdma)
The paper aim was an investigation on use of chaotic sequence in DS-CDMA. The DS-CDMA systems offer physical layer security without the need for a significant increase in computation or power requirements. Nowadays, DSCDMA has been used widely. These systems suffers from multiple access interference because of other users transmitting in the cell, channel inter symbol interference and additive ...
متن کاملA Multiuser Receiver Device with a Minimum Bit Error Rate in the Time Varying and Frequency Selective Fading Ds-cdma Channels Thereof
The traditional multiuser receiver structures being the most basic part of the DS-CDMA systems, used in the receiver or transceiver chip sets of the base stations have a linear structure, wherein said traditional multiuser receiver structures are intended for destroying 15 the interaction among the users. The two most classical multiuser receiver structures, 'Decorrelating' (DEC) and the 'Linea...
متن کاملSome TDMA and OFDM/CDMA receiver structures for communication over the return path of the CATV network
This paper deals with the derivation and comparison of some promising TDMA and OFDM/CDMA receiver structures for communication over the return path channel of the cable TV (CATV) network. Regarding TDMA, it is shown that the performance substantially improves by using equalization. Given the slowly varying, frequency selective nature of the ingress noise, OFDM seems an interesting possible acce...
